Berlin, then and now
In 1964, I was part of a pilot study-abroad program sponsored by the American Heritage Association that visited Europe, studying history, literature and languages with American professors who traveled with us. Our group was in Berlin only 2-3 days that August, but it made a deep impression on us; the effects of World War II were so obvious, as was the reality of the Cold War. In late 2011 and spring of 2012, I returned to Berlin and tried to find the landmarks that matched my old photos. It wasn't always easy.
